![]() Sure it hits sort of hard if you can predict well or somehow get a Swords Dance up but lots of mons do with better speed stats and defensive utility than Midnight Lycanroc. "pretty strong" wallbreaker, a lack of speed (and Accelerock for some reason) means it's just your standard run-off-the-mill offensive mon with little to no distinguishing qualities. Take all those issues and exacerbate them and you get Midnight. Compared to Excadrill, Exca is more than a little bit stronger, the being slower barely matters because with Sand Rush both outspeed just about everything, and Exca has a ton of resistances and a bit of bulk to work with and get Swords Dances up. ![]() You mention Sand Rush, but really, Lycan doesn't need it-speed is not the issue, it's only middling power with negative defensive utility. ![]() This weakness to Grounds is what lands it in PU rather than just RU, the tier below Dusk. I think it's quite obvious that it's completely outclassed in any tier that has Dusk, but even in ones that don't it can't simply replace it-lack of Tough Claws boost on Close Combat means it has massive issues with most Rock resists, Grounds in particular, that a +2 Lycanroc-Dusk could just threaten a KO on. Midday is just a huge step down from Dusk. And Terrak's power does matter, as DuskRoc just barely misses out on a bunch of boosted KOs against things like Lando-T, Hippo, Corvi and Buzzwole after Rocks that Terrak can all pick up with no chip needed. In particular Terrakion almost completely eclipses it in OU-it's stronger and its serviceable bulk+Dark resist gives it some actual defensive utility-and Terrak is not the most standard mon to begin with. While this strategy isn't awful by any means, it's not foolproof either so many people prefer the jungle of much better and more reliable wallbreakers OU has to offer. It's a serviceable wallbreaker once it gets a Swords Dance up, but poor bulk and little resistances mean there's not all that much it can actually get this up on, relying on threatening switches instead. Excadrill might be the slower Sand Rush user, but it's able to give K.O.s much easier and with less set up because of its herculean attack stat.Īs for Midnight form, well, it could have been closer to Dusk form in usage if Gamefreak gave it even 20 more points in Speed since No Guard is such a great ability to give to a Pokémon whose best move is Stone Edge and has the Attack stat to really make it hurt.ĭuskRoc isn't bad-bad but there's little reason to use it in OU. Offensively as a Sand Rush sweeper, it either puts itself on a timer with Life Orb, sacrifices crucial damage with Leftovers over a more offensive item, or choice lock itself with a Band. But ever since more and more Pokémon started running Heavy Duty Boots, the pressure of Stealth Rocks on the enemy team isn't as great, and it's harder for Midday Lycanroc to get value out of its utility since it will either be brought down to its Focus Sash after rocking, or it'll only get to Endeavor + Accelrock and end up missing out on hazards. ![]() Midday form is okay as a suicide lead, since it does have a pretty high speed stat. Lycanroc-Dusk is still really good, it's just not that crazy in higher tiers where everything is either faster, stronger or bulky enough to not care about its attacks. ![]()
